Update on Saline student who fell off balcony and University of Michigan public safety changes among today’s writing

On Monday I had reported about a 13-year-old who fell about 30 feet from a balcony in the Saline High School gym. He was taken to the hospital and seemed to be in stable condition. I didn’t hear anything more yesterday, but today I learned he’s been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home. He suffered facial and oral injuries, but no broken bones. The school district is still looking into how this fall came about.

I also posted a story about the new public safety division the University of Michigan has announced. The division was recommended following reviews of how there was a six-month delay in reporting child pornography found on a USB drive in the university health system to police. There’s quite a lot of information surrounding this story to the point there’s really three main parts to it: what went wrong, what the university is changing in response, and the ongoing court proceedings involving the suspect who was charged for possession of the pornography.
