Citizen’s police academy and hazardous materials situation among today’s writing

Just a bit ago I posted a story about how the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office is offering its Citizen’s Police Academy. The free, 12-week fall session of the academy will begin Aug. 29 and will cover a variety of topics involving how the law enforcement agency operates. The sheriff’s office is currently taking applications for anyone interested.

Earlier I wrote about a violent chemical reaction early this morning at a Pittsfield Township business that released an acid vapor cloud. It required the response of the county HazMat team, which was able to resolve the situation without any injuries.

It has been a few weeks since someone came into the Community Media Lab while I am here from 12:30-4 p.m. Wednesdays (the lab is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays) for anyone who wants to come by. I’ve done several iMovie tutorials before and am happy to introduce anyone who wants to come by to the program. Video editing is a handy skill and one that is surprisingly easy to learn the basics of.
