Did you know we have several free workshops scheduled for the next few weeks? I’ve been working on spreading the word about the three workshops in August. You can always find the latest schedule of events here.

Here’s what’s scheduled for August

Heritage Media is offering several free workshops at its Community Media Lab, located at 215 W. Michigan Ave. in the SPARK East building in downtown Ypsilanti.

The lab is staffed by professional journalists and editors from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and hosts occasional workshops in the evening taught by Heritage Media staff, Eastern Michigan University faculty, public relations professionals, Eastern Echo staff, photographers, videographers and other local experts on a variety of topics. 

 Creating DOCS in Google DOCS

Friday, Aug. 3 1-3 p.m.

215 W. Michigan Ave., Ypsilanti

Eastern Michigan University Professor Toni S. Jones will lead this workshop on creating and sharing documents using Google Docs. The free workshop is great for journalists, bloggers, community contributors, students and anyone else collaborating on projects.

Thursday, Aug. 16 6-8 p.m.

Citizen Journalists and FOIA

Thursday, Aug. 30 6-8 p.m.

Carol Schlagheck, Eastern Michigan University journalism professor, presents “Citizen Journalists and FOIA.”
